Fair housing laws ensure that individuals are not discriminated against when seeking housing. Housing providers must apply policies, rules, and procedures consistently throughout all stages of the rental process.
Federal Fair Housing Laws
• Fair Housing Act (FHA) -Prohibits discrimination in housing.
• Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (1973) -Applies to federally funded housing and protects individuals with disabilities.
• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) -Prohibits disability discrimination in certain housing-related situations.
